Bob (LaVerne Robert) Lay, 88, of Marion, passed away at 10:45 A.M., Tuesday, June 14, 2022 at the Heartland Regional Medical Center in Marion, IL.
Robert had worked as a lineman for Westar Power Company. He was a United States Army veteran.
He was born July 15, 1933 at Kulm, ND, the son of John and Leona (Mueller) Lay.
He first married Jeanette Morgan. He then married Ellen B. Gerdes on May 23, 1981 at Milwaukee, WI and she preceded him in death on December 4, 2011.
He is survived by one daughter - Susan Morgan of Marion, IL, one son - David Lay and wife Vinice of Sachse, TX, step-daughter - Sheila McKee and her two children Jackson and Olivia of Texas, adopted daughter - Donna Thomas of Murphysboro, IL, six grandchildren - Sean Lay, Shawn McCarragher and wife Dulce, Kyle Gainley, Victoria Gainley, Evan Lay, and Timothy Thomas, one sister - Donna Best of Indiana, two great grandchildren, one niece and one nephew.
He was preceded in death by his parents, wife - Ellen, one brother - Lester Lay and wife Gladys, and one brother-in-law - Clyde Best.
Graveside services will be at 10:00 A.M., Tuesday, June 28, 2022 at the Campbell Cemetery at Pinckneyville, IL.
Those attending the service are asked to go directly to the cemetery.
Burial will be in the Campbell Cemetery at Pinckneyville, IL.
