Obituary

Brandi Fay Spurlock, 31, of Du Quoin, passed away at 8:25 P.M., Thursday, March 2, 2023 at her residence.
Brandi had been an assistant activity director at the Fairview Nursing Home in Du Quoin. She was a very loving and caring person. She was a very free spirited person that would think nothing of going out of her way to help someone in need. She had no need for material things or wealth. Brandi was loved by all and will be truly missed by her family and friends. She loved the outdoors and had spent many a day camping, fishing or hunting mushrooms. She was very creative with an artistic flair for drawings and sketchings. She would paint works with uplifting images and words. Brandi loved to create new works using old costume jewelry, thus taking something old and outdated and turning it into something new and modern for everyone to enjoy. She was considered a whimsical artist, making hippie dippie/festival art along with hippie style jewelry and Grateful Dead inspired things. She was truly a hippie out of time by a few decades. She would have fit into, and probably prospered, in the 1960's. At times, the stereotypical flower/love child. Brandi was very creative in digital photography as well, giving the picture a psychedelic look to them. Her daughter, Willow Hester, is following in her footsteps of the whimsical art as well.
She was born August 8, 1991 in Evansville, IN, the daughter of Bobby T. and Renee (Morton) Spurlock, Jr.
She is survived by three loving children who were the light of her life - Wesley Bryan Spurlock, age 15 of Iuka, IL, Willow Renee Hester, age 8 of Pinckneyville, and Maxeen Audra Rose Spurlock, age 18 months of Iuka, IL, her parents - Bobby T. Spurlock, Jr. and Renee Lynn Spurlock, both of Iuka, IL, siblings - Thomas Jo Spurlock and his wife Morgan and their two children Landen Carter and Theodore of Sesser, Tyler Wayne Spurlock and wife Alexis Ridgeway of Du Quoin, and Brittini Renee Spurlock of Iuka, IL, grandmother - Clara JoAnn Spurlock of Du Quoin, grandfather - Audrey Wayne Morton of Chandler, IN and her dog - Queenie from Iuka, IL.
She was preceded in death by her maternal grandmother - Linda Fay Madison of Evansville, IN, her paternal grandfather - Bobby Thomas Spurlock, Sr. of Du Quoin and her biological father - William "Bongo Bill" Hutchinson.
Memorial services will be at 1:00 P.M., Friday, March 10, 2023 at the Searby Funeral Home in Du Quoin with Rev. Jim Endsley officiating.
Friends may call from 11:00 A.M. until the time of service on Friday at the Searby Funeral Home in Du Quoin.
