Obituary

Charlotte Rose Mangin, 81, of Du Quoin, passed away at 12:10 A.M., Saturday, September 19, 2021 at the Du Quoin Nursing & Rehabilitation Center.
Charlotte had worked at Decca Records before she had children. Later, when most of her daughters were older, she worked at Turco Manufacturing. She was also part-owner of the U-Drive Go Kart Track, which the family owned and ran for years in partnership with Bob and Hilda Allen, her brother- and sister-in-law. She also raised her four daughters and took care of the home and her husband, Frank Mangin. Nearly every spring she planted a beautiful garden full of vegetables. She had a very green thumb and liked to surround herself with flowers of all types. She particularly loved her roses, "chickens" (Sempervivum), and Christmas Cactus, which lived many years. She planted perennials each year and had various annuals decorating the landscape. She also loved animals and had many dear pets during her life. Her last pet was a dog named Max that she "took over" from daughter Nikki who became her faithful companion until he passed in 2020. She was a very lucky gambler and loved to play bingo and buy raffle and lottery tickets. She continued winning at Bingo after she became a resident at the nursing home. Most of all she loved her children and grandchildren and later great-grandchildren. This was the joy of her life until the very end.
Once her degenerative brain disease prevented her from living alone, she moved in with daughter, Nikki, and her family. She resided with them for nearly 15 years before entering the Du Quoin Nursing & Rehabilitation Center in June. Prior to that she had a wonderful caretaker for several years, Elaine Henry. The family is grateful for the time and attention she gave their mother.
She was born October 18, 1939 at Du Quoin, IL, the daughter of Richard and Juanita (Cook) Eyre.
She married Jerry N. Barber on July 27, 1956 at Vergennes, IL and he preceded her in death on December 13, 1966. She then married Frank L. Mangin on January 18, 1968 at Nashville, IL and he preceded her in death on August 19, 1999.
She is survived by her children - Kelly L. Burch of Du Quoin, Robin L. Edwards and husband Randy of Pinckneyville, Kathy J. Bell and Fiancé Greg Henseler of Du Quoin, and Nikki Saunders and husband S. Frank of Du Quoin, eight grandchildren - Brittany Weston and husband James of Du Quoin, Ashley Mitchell and husband Alan of Du Quoin, Shane Bell and wife Arielle of Freeburg, Brooke Edwards and boyfriend Nathan Beasley of Pinckneyville, Brandon Edwards of Pinckneyville, Ryan Bell and girlfriend Alahna Sinnard of Carbondale, Noah Saunders of Du Quoin, and Nickolas Saunders and girlfriend Alyiah Waters of Du Quoin, four great grandchildren - Emma Nichols, Ashton Nichols, Kash Mitchell, and Camden Bell, and sister-in-law - Joann (Barber) Porter of Rockford, Michigan.
She was preceded in death by her parents, two husbands, sister - Nancy Profitt, brother - Richard Eugene Eyre, and grandson - Trenton Wayne Bell.
