Danny Joe Harris, 74, of Dowell, passed away at 2:01 P.M., Monday, April 3, 2023 at the VA Medical Affairs Center in Marion, IL.
Danny had been a self employed truck driver for Danny J. Harris Trucking Company. He was a United States Army veteran of the Vietnam War. He attained the rank of Sergeant. Danny was a member of the American Legion Post 99 and the Du Quoin V.F.W.
He was born December 27, 1948 in Du Quoin, IL, the son of Franklin and Louise (Swallers) Harris.
He married Sandy Holt on January 2, 1975 in Pinckneyville and she survives.
He is survived by his wife of Dowell, one daughter - Danielle Klump and husband Bill of Oraville, IL, four grandchildren - Angel Brewner of Dowell, Morgan Brewner of Marietta, GA, Trenton Klump of Oraville, IL, and Camdan Brewner of De Soto, IL, two great grandchildren - Jack Murphy of Marietta, GA and Amelia Whitler of Dowell, one brother - Jerry Harris and wife Vivian of South Carolina and one sister - Betty Rheinecker of Saudi Arabia.
He was preceded in death by his parents, one son - Joe W. Brewner, two brothers - Neal Harris and Bobby Gene Harris, father-in-law and mother-in-law - LeRoy and Priscilla Holt, and three nephews - Did Harris, Shane Harris, and Dirk Porter.
Per Danny's request, cremation rites were accorded.
There will be no public services held.
Burial will be in the Old Du Quoin Cemetery in Du Quoin at a later date.
Friends may make memorials to the Marion VA Activity Fund and will be accepted at the funeral home.
