Obituary

Deborah (Debi) S. Lewis, 66, of DuQuoin passed from her earthly home to her heavenly home on Thursday, January 30, 2025, at Deaconess Midtown Hospital in Evansville, IN, surrounded by her family. Debi was a wife, mother, and grandma (Nonni) of excellence. Her hospitality was second to none. Her happiest times were when the house was full of family laughing, talking, eating, and watching her grandchildren running and playing everywhere. Debi was known by all who knew her and met her as the most caring, humble, self-sacrificing, servant-hearted, wise, and fun woman. She was truly just as beautiful on the inside as she was on the outside. She handled every obstacle she faced with grace and strength. Debi was saved by grace through faith in Jesus Christ, and her life reflected the love she was shown from Jesus. She was a member of Nine Mile Baptist Church in Tamaroa. In all things, her aim was to point her family and others to the Savior she loved. A scripture that perfectly describes Debi is Proverbs 31:28—"Her children rise up and call her blessed; her husband also, and he praises her." All who knew her loved her. Throughout her life, she left a lasting impression on so many that she encountered, even up until her last hours on this Earth.
She was born April 3, 1958 in Canton, IL, the daughter of Donald G. and Elda F. (Mitchell) Churchill.
She married David L. Lewis on August 13, 1977 at Nine Mile Baptist Church in Tamaroa.
She is survived by her husband of Du Quoin, two children - Tarah B. Davis and husband Jonathan of Springfield, IL and Adam L. Lewis and wife Amber of Du Quoin, her mother - Elda F. Churchill of Du Quoin, grandchildren - Rebekah B. Davis, Jonathan H. Davis, Judah H. Davis, Malachi J. Davis, Reagan M. Lewis, Aiden L. Lewis, Emerson C. Lewis, and Micah E. Lewis, siblings - Luci Soutouras, Jerry Churchill and wife Marla, David Churchill and wife Eileen, and Christine Gonos and husband Daryl, and several nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her father.
