Donald John Durkota, 79, of Du Quoin, passed away at 7:58 A.M., Monday, March 27, 2023 at his residence.
Donald had been a foreman in the coal mines. He had sold Prudential Insurance and had also sold insurance for Du Quoin Insurance Agency. Donald was a member of Holy Protection of the Virgin Mary Orthodox Church in Royalton. He was a member of the Du Quoin Lions Club, Du Quoin Kiwanis Club and Zeigler Eagles.
He was born July 8, 1943 in Chicago, IL, the son of John and Helen (Barno) Durkota.
He married Helen M. Urbanovit on June 2, 1973 in Murphysboro, IL and she preceded him in death on December 24, 2017.
He is survived by four children - John Durkota and wife Pam of Atlanta, GA, Vickie Trout and husband Rick of Mt. Vernon, IL, David Durkota and wife Gail of Du Quoin, and Debra Bartnicki and husband Nathan of Du Quoin, eight grandchildren - Stephen Durkota and wife Alise of Duluth, GA, Tyler Durkota and wife Rebecca of Seattle, WA, Josh Durkota of Reno, NV, Derick Trout and wife Randa of Mt. Vernon, IL, Alexia Trout of Mt. Vernon, IL and her boyfriend Rilan Pressgrove of Belle Rive, IL, Hanna Bartnicki of Du Quoin, C.J. Bartnicki of Du Quoin and Abram Durkota of Du Quoin, five great grandchildren - Macylee Durkota, Nicholas Durkota, Susie-Faye Durkota, Chesney Trout, and Eva Trout, and one brother - Michael Durkota of Perryville, MO.
He was preceded in death by his parents, wife and three grandchildren - Julie Trout, Blake Trout and Kirrah Durkota.
Memorial services will be at 2:00 P.M., Sunday, April 16, 2023 at the Searby Funeral Home in Du Quoin with Rev. Gary Darnell officiating.
Friends may call from Noon until the time of service on Sunday at the Searby Funeral Home in Du Quoin.
Burial will be at a later date at the Sunset Memorial Park in Du Quoin.
Friends may make memorials to the Perry County Humane Society or Marshall Browning Hospital Tree of Life and will be accepted at the funeral home.
