Eileen M. Koenegstein, 80, of Tamaroa, passed away at 1:45 P.M., Monday, September 14, 2026 at the Du Quoin Nursing and Rehabilitation Center.
Eileen had been a rural letter carrier for the Tamaroa Post Office.  She was a member of Immaculate Conception Catholic Church in Tamaroa and had served on the church council.  Eileen was a lover of baseball and 10 cent bingo.  Her German Shepard Lady, her Bloodhound Haley and her cats were very special to her.  She absolutely loved feeding wild squirrels, stray cats and birds.  Eileen enjoyed her banana plants, game shows and live PD.  She especially enjoyed spoiling her great grandbabies.
She was born July 15, 1946 in St. Louis, MO, the daughter of Leonard and Cecilia (Smugala) Resch.
She married Allen Koenegstein on August 21, 1971 in Mt. Vernon, IL and he preceded her in death on June 16, 2009.
She is survived by one daughter - Traci Koenegstein of Tamaroa, one granddaughter - Madysen Hicks of Tamaroa, two great grandchildren - Kynleigh Clark and Kaia Hicks, both of Tamaroa, nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, one brother - Leonard Resch, and one sister - Jo Ann Floyd.
Funeral services will be at 11:00 A.M., Tuesday, September 22, 2026 at the Searby Funeral Home in Tamaroa with Fr. John Igwe officiating.
Friends may call from 9 A.M. until the time of service on Tuesday at the Searby Funeral Home in Tamaroa.
Friends may make memorials to St. Francis Care in Murphysboro and will be accepted at the funeral home.
