Garrett Waine Mathis, 32, of Du Quoin, passed away at 7:40 P.M., Thursday, February 24, 2022 at the SIH Memorial Hospital of Carbondale.
Garrett had been an operating engineer. He was of the baptist faith. He was a member of Ducks Unlimited and Local 318 of the Operating Engineers.
He was born March 24, 1989 at St. Louis, MO the son of Billy A. and Jean Ann (Hollis) Mathis Jr.
Garrett is survived by his parents of Du Quoin, son - Jace Richard Waine Mathis of Du Quoin, step son - Braxton Ragan of Buckner, brother - Quinton Mathis and wife Stevie of Du Quoin, paternal grandmother - Ruth Mathis of Du Quoin, special friend Jayme Williamson and daughter Haley of Royalton, niece - Rylee Mathis of Du Quoin, great uncle - Steve Parry and wife Vickie of Du Quoin, two great aunts - Sara Geary of Du Quoin, and Sundy Moore of Rushville, aunt - Debbie Hollis of Sesser, and numerous aunts, uncles, and cousins.
He was preceded in death by his paternal grandfather - William A. Mathis Sr., and maternal grandparents - John and Pat Hollis.
Funeral services will be at 11:00 A.M., Tuesday, March 1, 2022 at the Searby Funeral Home in Du Quoin with Rev. Gerald Wright officiating.
Friends may call from 3 - 7 P.M. Monday, February 28, 2022 and Tuesday, March 1, 2022 from 9 A.M. until the time of service at the Searby Funeral Home in Du Quoin.
Burial will be in the Sunset Memorial Park at Du Quoin, IL.
