Gary Wayne George, 69, of Du Quoin, passed away at 5:55 A.M., Friday, April 3, 2026 at the SIH Memorial Hospital in Carbondale, IL.
Gary had been a torchman at Cobin Salvage Yard for over thirty years.  He was a member of the First Baptist Church in Du Quoin.
He was born April 24, 1956 in Du Quoin, IL, the son of Clyde Noel and Betty Louise (Karr) George.
He is survived by one granddaughter - Chelsea Gray and husband Dierick, three great granddaughters - Ember Gray, Avery Gray, and Saydee Gray, all of Missouri, one sister - Ruth Ann Carrothers and husband Rodney of Du Quoin and his dog Ozzie.
He was preceded in death by his parents, one son - Gary Wayne George, Jr., four brothers - James Edward George, Virgil Lee George, Paul Dean George and Elvin Ellis George and his dog - Dasher.
Celebration of Life service will be at 2:00 P.M., Sunday, April 12, 2026 at the Searby Funeral Home in Du Quoin with Rev. Joe Wagner officiating.
Friends may call from 1:00 P.M. until the time of service on Sunday at the Searby Funeral Home in Du Quoin.
Friends may make memorials to the First Baptist Church in Du Quoin and will be accepted at the funeral home.
