George R. Bailey, 79, of Du Quoin, passed away at 10:35 A.M., Saturday, May 21, 2022 at the Marshall Browning Hospital in Du Quoin.
George was a retired operator for the Consol #2 Mine. He was a member of the Spirit of Life Christian Church at Du Quoin. He was a member of the UMWA. George was a private pilot, a member of the AOPA and was a Ham Radio Operator.
He was born May 27, 1942 at Sunfield, IL, the son of LaVern "Twee" and Naomi Bernice (Bishop) Bailey.
George married Sherry Lynn Longshore on November 11, 1966 at Joliet, IL and she survives.
He is survived by his wife of Du Quoin, four children - Rhonda Fleming and husband Dana of Du Quoin, Kevin Bailey and wife Suzanne of Du Quoin, Lisa Lansford and husband Jamie of Poplar Bluff, MO and George Bailey, Jr. and wife Cary of Du Quoin, six grandchildren - Josh Fleming and wife Jaymee, Jeremy Fleming, Cody Bailey, Chloe Bailey, Jordan Lansford and Dawson Lansford, two great grandchildren - Ty Fleming and Dagan Fleming and several nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents, brother -Jim Bailey and two sisters - Mary Ellen Roach and Naomi Cooper.
Funeral services will be at 11:00 A.M., Thursday, May 26, 2022 at the Searby Funeral Home in Du Quoin with Rev. Gerald Wright officiating.
Friends may call from 9:00 A.M. until service time on Thursday at the Searby Funeral Home in Du Quoin.
Burial will be in the Sunset Memorial Park at Du Quoin.
Friends may make memorials to the Spirit of Life Christian Church or the Vision Church and will be accepted at the funeral home.
