Gilbert Lee Stockton, 94, of Du Quoin, passed away at 3:32 P.M., Wednesday, July 27, 2022 at the VA Medical Center in Marion, IL.
Gilbert had been a salesman for Cargill Company and he had also sold insurance for ten years. He was a Christian and had attended Liberty Church in Du Quoin. Gilbert was a United States Army veteran of World War II.
He was born February 6, 1928 in Sesser, IL, the son of Noble H. and Gracie (Galloway) Stockton.
He married Jean Montgomery on October 17, 1949 in Henderson, KY and she preceded him in death on August 7, 2018.
He is survived by one son - Chris Stockton and wife Shelley of Du Quoin, one daughter - Karen Britton and husband Larry of Tamaroa, four grandchildren - Michael Brown and wife Keri of Imperial, MO, Andrea Helmer and husband Jeremy of Du Quoin, Shelby Loyd and husband Raymond of Du Quoin and Autumn Cavitt and husband Zachary of Du Quoin, and six great grandchildren - Kylie Brown, Kerrigan Brown, Kristen Brown, Ryan Helmer, Amelia Helmer, and Claire Helmer.
He was preceded in death by his parents, wife, two sons - Bruce Stockton and Stephen Stockton and one brother - Lloyd Stockton.
Funeral services will be at 10:00 A.M., Monday, August 1, 2022 at the Searby Funeral Home in Du Quoin with Gary Kelly officiating.
Friends may call from 8 A.M. until the time of service on Monday at the Searby Funeral Home in Du Quoin.
Military graveside rites will be conducted by the Du Quoin V.F.W. and American Legion and the Army National Guard.
Burial will be in the Maple Hill Cemetery at Sesser, IL.
