Hilda W. Preston, 96, of Du Quoin, departed her earthly home at 12:20A.M., Sunday, May 18, 2025 from Fairview Nursing and Healthcare Center.
Hilda was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother and homemaker.  She enjoyed traveling, sewing, baking and being with her family.  She adored her grandchildren and great grandchildren.   She attended Southern Baptist churches with her family and friends throughout her life.  Hilda was a member of Concord Baptist Church in Pinckneyville.
She was born in Thompsonville, IL, on July 1, 1928, the daughter of Roman and Hazel (Hall) Waller.  Hilda married William D. Preston on November 2, 1946 in Du Quoin and he preceded her in death on July 23, 1996.  Most of their married life was spent in Bradley, IL where her siblings often visited and memories were recalled. Hilda and Bill were loved by members of the Wall Street Baptist Church in Kankakee. They were also highly thought of by their friends and family with a loving greeting awaiting each time they came through the backdoor.
She is survived by a son and daughter - David Preston and Lana of La Grange KY, Linda Sue Pate and Gary of Du Quoin, IL.  Also surviving are seven grandchildren, fourteen great grandchildren and one great great grandchild.
Hilda was preceded in death by her parents, husband, one daughter - Lisa Garrels, one grandson - Brian Hutton, four brothers and five sisters.
Funeral services will be at 11:00 A.M., Wednesday, May 21, 2025 at Searby Funeral Home in Du Quoin with Rev. Gary Pate officiating.
Friends may call from 10 A.M. until the time of the service on Wednesday at the Searby Funeral Home in Du Quoin.
A brief graveside service will be conducted immediately afterward for family members.
Burial will be at Sunset Memorial Park in Du Quoin.
Friends may make memorials to Concord Baptist Church and will be accepted at the funeral home.
