Janet Marie Smith, 83, of Harrisburg, was taken as God saw fit on Saturday, July 13, 2024, at 12:04 P.M., physically, from our midst. Yet her spirit lives on.
Janet began life's journey in St. Johns, IL on October 4, 1940, the daughter of Clarence and Flossie Mae (Smith) Landery.
Janet accepted Christ at an early age and was Baptized at an early age. She exemplified being a Christian by the way she lived. She served her family unselfishly and tirelessly, always leading by example, by offering her expert advice. Her passion in life was her dedication to family: her siblings, her kids, grandkids, great grandkids, never missing a birthday. She has left a valuable and permanent impression not only in our hearts but in our lives forever, her legacy begins today. Janet was affectionately known by many names, Mom, Momma, Jan-Jan, Sis, Ms. B, Lucy and others, not only to family, but anyone who had the pleasure of meeting this special lady. To know Janet was truly a blessing!
She married Lee Roy Banks, Sr. in 1958 and he preceded her in death on May 17, 1994. She married Lee Chester Ulmer on July 10, 1983 and he preceded her in death on February 14, 2016.
Janet leaves to rejoice her Homegoing: her loving sons - Michael A. (Lynn) Banks of Harrisburg, Lee Roy Banks, Jr. of Joliet, and Stacey Eugene (Barbara) Banks of Joliet, loving daughters - Victoria Marie Hawkins of Augusta, GA, Sheri Regina (Douglas) Moore of Joliet, Roberta Lee Kelley of Houston, TX, and Kimberly Kay (Dennis Jr.) Daniels of San Diego, CA, twenty-five adorable grandchildren, thirty-eight precious great grandchildren, brothers - Byford (Phontella) Landery of Kansas City, MO, Michael Monroe (Lolita) Landery of Atlanta, GA, Russell E. (Dawn) Landery of Glendale, CA, and Arthur Lee Smith of Ft. Lauderdale, FL, sisters - Elouise Creal of Joliet and Venita Ethel Brass of St. Louis, MO, and a host of relatives.
She was preceded in death by her parents, two husbands, one son - Freddy Leroy Banks, and one sister - Winnieford Maxine Landery.
