Jeffrey S. "Jeff" Profitt, 62, of Du Quoin, passed away at 12:53 A.M., Tuesday, July 7, 2026 at the Fairview Rehabilitation and Healthcare in Du Quoin.
Jeff was born March 26, 1964 in Du Quoin, IL, the son of Robert J. and Nancy (Eyre) Profitt.
Jeff had worked at the Du Quoin Evening Call for many years as a sports writer and photographer.  He had also worked at the WDQN Radio and announced at Du Quoin High School sporting events.  Jeff was an avid Du Quoin Indians and St. Louis Cardinals fan.  While attending Du Quoin High School, Jeff was on the track team and golf team.
He is survived by cousins - Kelly Barber of Du Quoin, Robin Edwards and husband Randy of Pinckneyville, Kathy Bell and Greg Henseler of Du Quoin, and Nikki Saunders and husband Frank of Elkville, special friends - Steve Marek, Roger Waller, Neal Toler, and David Beard.
He was preceded in death by his parents, grandparents, and two special friends - Chris Darnell and Dwight Hill.
Memorial services will be held at 10:00 A.M., Monday, July 13, 2026 at the Searby Funeral Home in Du Quoin with Steve Marek officiating.
Friends may call from  9:00 A.M. until the time of service on Monday at the funeral home.
Burial will be at Sunset Memorial Park in Du Quoin, IL.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Du Quoin Athletics Department or Hospice of Southern Illinois and will be accepted at the funeral home.
In honor of Jeff, please come dressed in your favorite Du Quoin Indians or St. Louis Cardinals shirts.
