John Lee Hampsey, 68, of Du Quoin, passed away at 12:52 A.M., Wednesday, April 20, 2022 at the Friendship Manor Health Care in Nashville, IL.
John had worked at Du Quoin Home Lumber. He then became a correctional officer for the State of Illinois, working at Menard Penitentiary, where he retired from. John was a member of the Gospel Assembly Church in Du Quoin.
He was born October 14, 1953 in Christopher, IL, the son of Lawrence and Pauline Nell (Kelley) Hampsey.
He married Bonnie M. Hutchings on June 27, 1974 in Paducah, KY and she preceded him in death on November 16, 2014.
He is survived by two half brothers - Jim Hampsey of Alton, IL and Carroll Kunze of Twentynine Palms, CA and two nieces - Cheryl Hutchings of Fairview Heights, IL and Tina McKee.
He was preceded in death by his parents, wife, one daughter - Shana Hampsey and one sister - Imola Davis.
Funeral services will be at 11:00 A.M., Saturday, April 23, 2022 at the Searby Funeral Home in Du Quoin with Rev. Gaylen Holden officiating.
Friends may call from 9 A.M. until the time of service on Saturday at the Searby Funeral Home in Du Quoin.
Burial will be in the Sunset Memorial Park in Du Quoin.
Friends may make memorials to the Shriners Crippled Children's Hospital and will be accepted at the funeral home.
