John Steven Vaughn, 71, of Du Quoin, passed away at 10:11 A.M., Monday, September 7, 2026 at Deaconess Gateway Hospital in Evansville, IN.
Steve had worked as a mechanic at Du Quoin Auto Service.  He had been a coal mining examiner and had worked at Peabody Marissa Mine.  Steve was a member of the First Baptist Church in Du Quoin.  He enjoyed drag racing with his son and grandsons.  Steve also enjoyed car shows and driving his jeeps.
He was born March 21, 1955 in St. Louis, MO, the son of Pleasant and Alberta (Reeder) Vaughn.
He married Martha Aronhalt on June 17, 1983 at the First Christian Church in Du Quoin and she survives.
He is survived by his wife of Du Quoin, one son - Scott Vaughn of Du Quoin, four grandchildren - Tristan Tweedy of Du Quoin, Savannah Wadas and husband Brandon of Marion and Gauge Vaughn and Tach Vaughn, both of Du Quoin, and one nephew - Jimmy Vaughn of Las Vegas, NV.
He was preceded in death by his parents and three brothers - Alan Vaughn, Mike Vaughn, and Greg Vaughn.
Friends may call from 5 to 7 P.M., Thursday, September 10, 2026 at the Searby Funeral Home in Du Quoin.
Friends may make memorials to a college fund for Steve's grandchildren with donations made to Martha Vaughn and will be accepted at the funeral home.
