Joyce Marie Lucas, 74, of Du Quoin, passed away at 10:10 P.M., Sunday, June 4, 2023 at her residence.
Joyce had been a nurse.  She had worked for thirty-seven years at Marshall Browning Hospital in Du Quoin and twenty-three years at Pinckneyville Correctional Center.  Joyce was a member of the Bethel Lutheran Church in Du Quoin.  She was also a member of Du Quoin Elks Lodge and had served as a trustee.  Joyce enjoyed traveling and shopping.
She was born August 29, 1948 in Du Quoin, IL, the daughter of William C. and Pearl (Pierce) Cook.
She is survived by four children - Sherry Wertz and husband Pete of Du Quoin, Lonnie Mifflin of Christopher, Michelle Fatnassi and husband Issam of Orlando, FL, and Darold Lucus and wife Heather of Marion, IL, five siblings - Janice Hart and husband Kenny of Jerseyville, IL, Kathy Jo Stanton of Dowell, Jimmy Cook and wife Marveline of Royalton, Sharon Welch and husband Chuck of Florida, and Joan Malotte and husband Bob of Winter Garden, FL, ten grandchildren - Courtany Rizzotte and husband Mike, Brandy Mifflin, Brittany Mifflin, Jennifer Mateycak and husband Tim, Erin Puffer and husband Mark, Katie Morrison and Tyger, Brooklynn Rodriguez and husband Austin, Graham Lucus, Madison Mangrum and husband Jacob and Heather Morris, five great grandchildren - Noah Mifflin, Jaxon Fellner, Serenity Mateycak, Freya Mateycak, and Shelby Puffer, her special friends "The Girls" - Nancy Knope, Sandy Hill, Janet Kehl, and Michele Lacey.
She was preceded in death by her parents - William C. Cook and Pearl Cook Vancil, one grandson - Jeffery Conner, three brothers - Billie Cook, Brian Cook, and Bobby Cook, and three sisters - Nancy McClanahan, Norma Sweatland, and Ruth Ann Reeves.
Memorial services will be at 11:00 A.M., Friday, June 9, 2023 at the Bethel Lutheran Church in Du Quoin with Rev. Alan Kornacki officiating.
Friends may call from 10 A.M. until the time of service at the church.
Friends may make memorials to the Du Quoin Elks Lodge, Perry County Humane Society or Jeff Conner Memorial Scholarship and will be accepted at the funeral home.
