Obituary

Karen Carter Danbury, 82, of Du Quoin, a woman whose laughter and love touched the lives of many, passed away peacefully at 3:20 P.M., Saturday, August 8, 2026 at the Du Quoin Nursing and Rehabilitation Center in Du Quoin.  Born on February 18, 1944, in Pinckneyville, Illinois, Karen was the cherished daughter of Lillian and Richard Carter.  Throughout her life, Karen epitomized kindness, warmth, and boundless enthusiasm for both learning and sharing her knowledge with others.
Karen grew up in Pinckneyville, where she attended and graduated from Pinckneyville High School. Following her graduation, she pursued her dreams by moving to Texas to attend Bible college.  There, she acquired a profound and intriguing understanding of the Bible, which she carried throughout her life.  Her faith was an integral part of her identity, and she was a proud member of the Pentecostal faith.
In 1975, Karen married the love of her life, Richard Danbury, on May 13th.  Together, they shared a life rich with love and companionship until Richard's passing.  Karen's heart was filled with joy by her son, Aaron Danbury, of Peoria, whom she adored and regarded as her pride and joy.
Karen's professional journey was marked by her dedication and work ethic.  She began her career as an office worker for Dr. Dode in Pinckneyville and later contributed her skills to the Blue Bell Packing Company.  Her career continued at Willis, where she worked diligently for many years.
Her warmth and vibrant personality were evident in her love for children and her community involvement.  As a teenager, she spent time at the Tupelo Children's Mansion, offering support and kindness to children in need.  Karen had a natural gift for storytelling, which made her an extraordinary babysitter; she could weave tales that transported listeners into captivating worlds.
Karen's laughter was infectious, and her presence was as source of comfort and joy to those around her.  Her sisters, Pat Lively (Odell) and Terri Carter of Du Quoin, and Joyce Johnson (Mac) of Murray, Kentucky; her brothers, Don Carter of Marion, Illinois, Tom Carter (Carol) of Ava, and Allen Carter (Lyn) of Du Quoin, along with her many beloved nieces and nephews, will forever cherish her memory.
She was preceded in death by her loving parents, her grandparents, her stepfather Arthur, her dear husband Richard, her brother Jack Carter, and her nephew Mark Carter.
While Karen's family has chosen to honor her wishes with no formal services, they invite those who wish to honor her memory to make a donation to a charity of their choice.
Burial will be at the Mueller Hill Cemetery in Pinckneyville, IL.
A Celebration of life service will be held at a later date.
Karen's family holds her close in their hearts, remembering her as a beacon of love, laughter, and unwavering support.  Her legacy lives on in the countless lives she touched and the love she shared so generously.
