Karen Sue Monroe, 69, of Du Quoin, passed away at 6:34 A.M., Thursday, June 19, 2025 at the Marshall Browning Hospital in Du Quoin.
Karen had been a homemaker.  She was a good wife and Mom but her greatest job was being Mawmaw.  She took care of her grandkids like they were her children and she was the best Mawmaw in the world.  Karen was a friendly face in town and never met a stranger.  She had the biggest heart.  She would open her heart and home up to kids other than her own.  Karen was a member of the Elkville Christian Church.  Her hobbies included shopping and spoiling her grandkids.
She was born September 26, 1955 in St. Louis, MO, the daughter of John and Allene (Morgan) Kopp.
She married Gary R. Monroe on December 20, 1974 in Chicago, IL and he survives.
She is survived by her husband of Du Quoin, two children - Wesley Monroe of Du Quoin and Dawn Violett and husband Ryan of Carbondale, grandchildren - John Robert Monroe, Lauren Kyser, Christopher Monroe, Colton Violett, and Aubrey Violett, bonus grandkids - Max and Brandt and any kid that needed a Mawmaw, a beloved family friend - Tina Monroe, one sister - Barbara Moore of Florida, and several nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents, and three brothers - John Kopp, Rodney Kopp, and James Kopp.
Memorial services will be at 4:00 P.M., Sunday, July 13, 2025 at the Searby Funeral Home in Du Quoin with Rev. Gary Pruitt officiating.
Friends may call from 2 P.M. until the time of service on Sunday at the Searby Funeral Home in Du Quoin.
Friends may make memorials to Elkville Christian Church and will be accepted at the funeral home.
