Karen D. Smith, 67, of Du Quoin, passed away at 7:14 P.M., Sunday, October 6, 2024 at the Marshall Browning Hospital in Du Quoin.
Karen had been a hairdresser.  She was a member of AME Zion Church in Du Quoin.
She was born August 21, 1957 in Chicago, IL, the daughter of Harvey Eugene and Maurnice (Kelly) Simpson.
She married Jodie Smith on June 23, 1979 in Du Quoin, IL and he survives.
She is survived by her husband of Du Quoin, three children - Chasity Person and husband James of Carbondale, Lonnie Smith and Jara Stowers of Du Quoin, and Harvey Smith and wife Jennah of Murphysboro, ten grandchildren - Sian Person, Kayla Person, James Person III, Jaden Smith Traijon Smith, Trelin Smith, Loni Smith, Jaya Smith, Jayden Anders, and Asiah Smith, three siblings - Bridgitt Simpson of Du Quoin, Stuart Simpson of Detroit, MI, and Kimberly Jackson of Detroit, MI, sister-in-law - Lucille Smith, aunts, uncles, cousins, nieces, nephews and friends.
She was preceded in death by her parents, one grandson - Ashton Smith and one sister - Deborah Simpson.
Funeral services will be at 1:00 P.M., Friday, October 11, 2024 at the Searby Funeral Home in Du Quoin with Rev. Karl Williams officiating.
Friends may call from 11 A.M. until the time of service on Friday at the Searby Funeral Home in Du Quoin.
Burial will be in the I.O.O.F. Cemetery in Du Quoin, IL.
Friends may make memorials to the family and will be accepted at the funeral home.
