Linda Darlene Gassel, 70, of Du Quoin, passed away at 10:43 A.M., Thursday, December 9, 2021 at her residence.
Linda had been a secretary in various departments at Southern Illinois University. She was a member of the First Church of the Nazarene in Du Quoin. She enjoyed crafting, reading, singing and cooking. Linda loved her grandkids, great grandkids and her church family. Her goal in life was to make you smile and be happy.
She was born June 17, 1951 at Murphysboro, IL, the daughter of Jimmy and Pauline (Modglin) Carrothers.
She married Richard Gassel in 1969 at Pinckneyville, IL and he preceded her in death in 1984.
She is survived by one son - Joseph Gassel and wife Heather of Du Quoin, four step daughters, two brothers - Rodney Carrothers and wife Ruth of Du Quoin and Jeff Carrothers and wife Vanessa of Du Quoin, one sister - Gayla Self and husband Jason of Carbondale, several grandchildren, great grandchildren, adopted grandchildren, adopted great grandchildren, nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, one brother - Terry Carrothers and one sister - LaDonna Koonce.
Friends may make memorials to the American Diabetes Association or First Church of the Nazarene and will be accepted at the funeral home.
