Lois W. Hirsch, 94, of Du Quoin, passed away at 9:32 P.M., Tuesday, August 16, 2022 at her residence.
Lois had been a homemaker and wrote for the Du Quoin Evening Call. She was a member of St. John's United Church of Christ in Du Quoin. She enjoyed sending cards and letters for family and friends. Lois loved having fun. She was a member of Marshall Browning Hospital Auxiliary. Lois had served on the board for Five Star Industries for many years.
She was born April 25, 1928 in Shakerag, IL, the daughter of George and Georgia (Miller) Short.
She married Louis A. "Popeye" Hirsch on May 8, 1948 in Du Quoin, IL and he preceded her in death on September 7, 1999.
She is survived by two daughters - Susan Kunkel and husband Ed of Tamaroa and Janet Hagerling of Du Quoin, three grandchildren - Kelli Boss and husband Adam of Du Quoin, Kathi Jones and husband Matt of Tamaroa and Becky Hagerling of Du Quoin, five great grandchildren - Gena Adams and husband Steve of Du Quoin, Kayla (Boss) Bower of Du Quoin, Jonathan Boss and wife Hannah of Du Quoin, Madison Jones and fiancé Michael Smith of Columbia, MO and Zachery Jones of Tamaroa, five great great grandchildren - David, Lia, Cassidy, Bella, and Jonah, numerous nieces, nephews and special friends.
She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, one son - Jerry Hirsch, one sister - Gladys Stanley, and two brothers - Loren Short and Lester Short.
Funeral services will be at 10:00 A.M., Saturday, August 20, 2022 at the Searby Funeral Home in Du Quoin with Adam Boss and Matt Jones officiating.
Friends may call from 4 to 7 P.M., Friday at the Searby Funeral Home in Du Quoin.
Burial will be in the Sunset Memorial Park in Du Quoin, IL.
Friends may make memorials to Five Star Industries or to the family and will be accepted at the funeral home.
