Obituary

Lorene Lawrence, 97, of Reseda, California, passed away peacefully on February 21, 2026, leaving behind a legacy of love, kindness, and devotion to family and faith.
Born on May 10, 1928, in Du Quoin, Illinois, Lorene was the youngest of three daughters. She carried the values of love and family with her throughout her life, eventually settling in California where she built a home filled with warmth and care.
She spent her early adult years raising her family and working, but her true joy came in 1985 when she married Jewel, the love of her life.  Their marriage was a beautiful reminder that love knows no timeline. Together, they became pillars in their church community, where they were affectionately known as "Grandma and Grandpa Friendly." Whether reading to children, passing out cookies, or offering warm hugs, they made everyone feel seen and loved.
Lorene had a gentle spirit and a heart for service. She found joy in helping others discover their roots through genealogy and spent countless hours volunteering at the Santa Monica library. She also loved tending to her flowers, filling her garden with vibrant blooms that reflected her nurturing soul.
She and Jewel shared many adventures, traveling across the country—even driving to Alaska—and creating treasured memories along the way.
Lorene also had a love for reading and staying connected to the world around her. She especially enjoyed books about dogs, reading the newspaper, and keeping up with current affairs. She was a devoted fan of the Los Angeles Dodgers—truly a die-hard. She knew the lineup before each game and delighted in predicting who would hit a home run, often getting it exactly right.  And her Boys in Blue didn't disappoint with back-to-back World Series wins.
Above all, Lorene loved her family deeply. She is survived by her daughter, Lilly White; her sons, Robert Johnson and James Johnson; and many, many grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and dear friends. She was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Jewel.
Though she is no longer with us, Lorene's love and light will continue to live on in all who knew her.
