Marcella Theresa "Sally" Fontana, 97, of Du Quoin, passed away at 4:20 A.M., Thursday, December 17, 2020 at the Du Quoin Nursing and Rehabilitation Center.

Sally had worked at Alongi's Restaurant, Morrison's Restaurant, and McCollum Drug Store. She had also been a cook at the Sacred Heart Cafeteria. Sally was a member of the Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Du Quoin. She was a member of the Catholic Daughters for forty-seven years. Sally was also a member of Sacred Heart Quilters.

She was born October 17, 1923 at Pinckneyville, IL, the daughter of Jacob and Theresa (Hoffmann) Epplin.

She married Valentine Dominic Fontana on December 2, 1944 at Pinckneyville, IL and he preceded her in death on January 4, 1993.

She is survived by one son - Ron Fontana and wife Betty of Du Quoin, three daughters - Rosalie Beckerle and husband Jack of St. Peters, MO, Theresa Swain and husband Ron of Du Quoin, and Joan Zickus and husband John of Maryville, IL, seven grandchildren - Roxanne Kohlbrecher and husband Craig, Christopher Beckerle and wife Andrea, Jeremy Swain and wife Stephanie, Dustin Swain, Donnielle Bullar and husband Phil, Chad Wampler and wife Laura and Craig Stacey and wife Rachel, fourteen great grandchildren and one on the way.

She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, one daughter - Marcia Stacey, six siblings - Christina Buettner, Hildegard Poe, Herman Epplin, Florence Eisfelder, Jacob Epplin and John Epplin in infancy, and one granddaughter - Tracey Lynn Fontana.

Graveside services will be at 10:00 A.M., Saturday, December 19, 2020 at the Sacred Heart Cemetery in Du Quoin with Fr. Joseph Oganda officiating.

Friends may call from 9:30 A.M. until the time of service on Saturday at the Sacred Heart Cemetery in Du Quoin.

Please use social distancing guidelines. Everyone in attendance is required to wear a mask.

Burial will be in the Sacred Heart Cemetery at Du Quoin.

Friends may make memorials to the Catholic Daughters or Sacred Heart Catholic Church and will be accepted at the funeral home.
