Obituary

Martha Rena (Ford) Scott, 82, of Cordova, TN, formerly of Du Quoin, passed away on Thursday, January 15, 2026 at the Baptist Memorial Hospital in Memphis, TN.
Martha had been a retired Special Education Teacher, working in Du Quoin and Memphis City Schools.  She earned her bachelor degree from Southern Illinois University.  Martha was member of Morning Chapel Baptist Church, Tennessee Education Association, Memphis Teacher Credit Union, Reading First Program, and Illinois Municipal System.
She was born July 28, 1943 in Chicago, IL, the daughter of Roy Eugene and Rosa (Barker) Ford.
As a little girl, she used to dream about various things.  After her mother passed away, she thought her dreams would not come true.  She remembered receiving her first Bible, which she still had, at school.  The more she read and prayed, she became very close to God.  She praised the Lord morning, noon, and night for all the blessings and dreams He gave her and continued to give.  She asked the Lord for three wishes she needed when she became a young lady.  They were, a caring husband, two or three children and a house with a large yard to work in.  As she prayed, the Lord met her wishes.  He may not come when we want but He is always on time.
She met Orlando Scott, Jr. in the summer of 1960.  They began to date.  On August 25, 1962, they became one in Du Quoin, IL.  Orlando has been the husband God sent.  He is a caring, hardworking man.  He has supplied her care during many struggles.  Orlando was given strength to handle any situation.  He never quits or gives up.  Again, he was God sent.
They had a daughter, Alicia and twin sons, Robert and Gregory.
Martha remembers asking her children to always say their prayers and talk to the Lord because He answers prayers.
They enjoyed many activities including yard work, especially bagworm detail.  Their children show their care also.  If something is happening with her or Orlando in Tennessee, they stop what they are doing and get on the road.  The children called a lot and visited.
Martha doesn't want mourning or weeping because God s power will bring healing, encouragement, comfort and joy.  The Lord is there for you.  Do not forget.
Martha always loved collecting angels, so now she is an angel - smiling, wearing her wings, surrounded by other angels, family and friends.  She has gone home but still has her loved ones in her heart.  Give praise to God and all will be well.  She loves you all!
Joshua 1:9 - Be strong and courageous.  Do not be discouraged for the Lord your God will be with you wherever you go.
She is survived by her husband - Orlando R. Scott, Jr. of Cordova, TN, one daughter - Alicia A. Scott of Maryland Heights, MO, and identical twin sons - Robert E. Scott of Murphysboro and Gregory A. Scott and wife Angel of Dayton, OH.
She was preceded in death by her parents, two sisters - Royetta Burnett and Louise Ellis, one nephew - Stephen Roberts and one niece - Freddie Elaine Roberts.
