Mary L. Underwood, 97, of Elkville, passed away at 9:35 P.M., Sunday, November 26, 2023 at the Manor Court of Carbondale.
Mary had been a factory label maker and retired from Lustar in Murphysboro.  She was a member of the Elkville Christian Church.  Mary enjoyed playing cards.
She was born July 29, 1926 in Jackson County, IL, the daughter of Julian and Stella (Shelton) Barnett.
She married Cornelius Underwood on November 21, 1946 in Murphysboro, IL and he preceded her in death.
She is survived by nieces and nephews - Don Johnson of California, Mary Sikorski of Energy, IL, Gary Johnson of California, Rick Barnett of Florida, Linda Ellet of DeSoto, IL and numerous other nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents, husband and siblings - Leslie Barnett, Cleadus Barnett, Norman Barnett, Harlan Barnett, Inis Drake and Letha Johnson.
Funeral services will be at 1:00 P.M., Thursday, November 30, 2023 at the Searby Funeral Home in Du Quoin with Bro. Gary Pruitt officiating.
Friends may call from Noon until the time of service on Thursday at the Searby Funeral Home in Du Quoin.
Burial will be in the Hallidayboro Cemetery at Hallidayboro, IL.
Friends may make memorials to the American Heart Association and will be accepted at the funeral home.
