Nancy Louise Weinberg passed away on January 15th, 2023. She was 76.
Beloved daughter of Dr. Julius and Mrs. Irma Jean Weinberg, sister to Dr. Thomas and Dr. Richard Weinberg, Nancy was born (December 11, 1946) and raised in Du Quoin, Il. She attended Du Quoin High School, home of the Indians, where she served as their first female band leader. Nancy was the only Du Quoin High School student to be crowned homecoming, prom and band queen.
As a creative writing major at the University of Denver, Nancy pledged her mother's sorority Pi Beta Phi. Her unrivaled fandom of the Denver Broncos began while watching the team practice at DU's stadium.
Her fondness for sunshine eventually led her to call warmer climates home. After college, she moved to Hawaii where she had her first three children: Jamie, Kelly, and Richard. While on Oahu, she became a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. She later settled in the Bay Area in Northern California and had two more children: Paul and Colby. Nancy treasured her hometown roots, however. Strong ties to her family and friends brought her back to Du Quoin for visits during holidays and fair time.
She loved all creatures great and small and shared her home with many furry friends over the years.
Nancy was a huge supporter of her children's sports teams, especially soccer. Rain or shine, she rarely missed a game, and never let a ref get away with a bad call. She was above all else, an amazing mother. Her love and devotion to her children was felt by everyone fortunate enough to know her.
The gift of gab made Nancy a friend to all and a stranger to none. She will be long remembered for her enduring charm and warmth. She is deeply missed.
She is survived by her four children - Kelly DeBeer and her husband Ed, Richard Wodehouse and his wife Lori, Paul Wiggins his wife Luisa, Colby Wiggins and her partner Joseph Yonker - six grandchildren - Hayden and Kaila DeBeer, Haley and Dane Wodehouse, Camryn and Finnegan Wiggins - and her brothers - Dr. Thomas Weinberg and his wife Grace, Dr. Richard Weinberg and his wife Jan.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Dr. Julius and Mrs. Irma Jean Weinberg, and her son James "Jamie" Archibald Hay Wodehouse III.
