Peggy L. Holmes, 91, of Benton, formerly of Du Quoin, passed away at 6:25 P.M., Sunday, October 15, 2023 at the Marshall Browning Hospital in Du Quoin.
Peggy had been a homemaker.  She was a member of the Sunfield Baptist Church.  Peggy had been song leader for many years at the church.  She was also a member of the Beacons Gospel singing group.
She was born February 27, 1932 in Du Quoin, IL, the daughter of James H. and Fern (McClanahan) Spangler.
She married Cyrus Harold Holmes on July 23, 1949 in Piggot, AR and he preceded her in death on September 22, 2004.
She is survived by two sons - Dean Holmes and wife Erin of Du Quoin and Danny Holmes and Susan Hopkins of Benton, one sister - Wanda Huite of Du Quoin, one sister-in-law - Helen Beckham of Du Quoin, ten grandchildren, eleven great grandchildren and one on the way, and five great great grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, daughter-in-law - Dodie Holmes, one grandson - Thomas Marlow, and one brother - J.D. Spangler.
Funeral services will be at 10:00 A.M., Thursday, October 19, 2023 at the Searby Funeral Home in Du Quoin with Rev. Joel Vancil officiating.
Friends may call from 9 A.M. until the time of service on Thursday at the Searby Funeral Home in Du Quoin.
Burial will be in the Sunset Memorial Park in Du Quoin.
Friends may make memorials to Sunfield Baptist Church and will be accepted at the funeral home.
