Sally Florine Phipps, 94, of Du Quoin, passed away at 12:33 A.M., Monday, December 27, 2021 at the Du Quoin Nursing and Rehabilitation Center.
Sally was the youngest child of Oscar and Elsie (Mc Daniel) Lacy. She was born on May 22, 1927 in Winkle, IL. The following year, both of her parents died within a month of each other, leaving her and her siblings orphans. While the older children were sent to a children's home in central Illinois, Sally was not accepted at the children's home because she was so young. She was then taken in and later adopted by an aunt and uncle, Mr. and Mrs. Pona Eaton. She was raised in and around Du Quoin, and she graduated from Du Quoin Township High School in 1945.
On May 4, 1946, Sally married Robert Phipps, and they had two children, Ronald who was born April 13, 1947 , and Cynthia, born March 30, 1960. Robert was a popular elected official in Perry County, Illinois, serving as Circuit Clerk for over twenty years. Sally worked as Chief Clerk for the Illinois State Police district 13 office in Du Quoin.
Sally was a member of Spirit of Life Christian Church and had served as an officer in the Women's Fellowship group. She also had volunteered at the Du Quoin Food Pantry and had served on its board.
She is survived by her children, Ronald (Karen) Phipps and Cynthia (Uhe) and her fiancé Randy Stockdale. She also leaves behind four grandchildren, Jennifer (Matthew) Foutch, Fairhope, AL, Robert (Sarah) Phipps, Du Quoin, Kimberly (Daniel) Parker, Eagleville, TN, and Ryan (Sara) Uhe, Du Quoin.
Sally was blessed to live a long enough life to enjoy time with eight great-grandchildren, Adrian and Erin Foutch, Grace and Anna Phipps, Daphne and Isla Parker, Reece and Madeleine Uhe.
She also leaves behind numerous nieces and nephews. Special nephews include Mark Benson and Tommy Phipps in Du Quoin, and Chuck Shuller in Panama City, FL. Sally also enjoyed visiting over the phone with her niece Virginia Parks in Oklahoma.
