Obituary

Scott Allen Lemmon, 50, of Tamaroa, passed away at 1:22 P.M., Thursday, August 6, 2026 at the Memorial Hospital of Carbondale.
Scott was a friend to everyone and enjoyed the time he spent with people around him. To know him was to like him. Nothing made him happier than getting a smile or laugh from those around him. From quoting movies to making jokes, he made life more fun.  Everyone who knew him will miss his humor and happy demeanor.
Scott owned and operated the transmission shop, Clay's Transmissions, which he took over from his father. They worked closely together for many years, helping to keep cars on the road all over Southern Illinois.
Scott was an avid hunter, spending many mornings in the woods waiting for just the right one. He loved time outdoors, particularly hanging out with his dogs, specifically Max. He enjoyed spending time at the races, working with the Sizemore family at their many events. He earned the name Spongebob from his wife for his time spent flipping burgers.
Scott attended St. Charles Catholic Church in Du Bois and was of the Catholic faith.
Scott was proudest as a father and adored his daughter Aubrey and step-son Roger. He loved going to pageants, games, dance competitions and graduations. He lived to see them grow up, get degrees, and start careers of their own.
Scott was also a husband to Jennifer (Hampton). It was a marriage full of joy and love. There were more laughs than most. They married on September 21, 2002, in Sunfield, IL and she survives him.
He was born on February 9, 1976 in Du Quoin, IL, the son of Weldon "Clay" and Dolores (Zurawski) Lemmon. He is survived by his mother of Tamaroa.  His father preceded him in death.
Other survivors include his daughter, Aubrey Lemmon of Tamaroa, step-son, Roger D. Perkey, III and wife Rachel of Columbus, OH, his sisters, Jennifer Bathon and husband Justin of Georgetown, KY, and Krystal Bercaw and family of Florida, brother, Rusty Lemmon and family of Florida, nieces and nephews - Matthew Bathon, Elsie Bathon, Evan Bathon, Lucy Bathon, Celeste Bathon, Matthew Altstatt, Justin Altstatt, Isabella Lemmon, Jamie Neiman and Tiffany Alford and mother-in-law - Peggy Wilson and husband Chuckie, aunts and uncle.
Visitation will be from 4 to 7 P.M., Monday, August 10, 2026 at the Searby Funeral Home in Tamaroa.
Friends may make memorials to the Education Fund for his daughter Aubrey and will be accepted at the funeral home.
