Sheryl Lee Atkins, 62, of Du Quoin, passed away at 2:55 P.M., Tuesday, December 8, 2020 at her residence.

Sheryl had been a homemaker. She was of the nondenominational faith. Sheryl had been church librarian and involved with the ladies groups in the church. She loved reading, cooking and scrapbooking. She also enjoyed spending time with her family and camping. Sheryl had a strong relationship with Jesus. He is where her strength came from. She knew her last breath here would be her first breath in Heaven. She was never afraid because "God's got this!".

She was born July 30, 1958 at San Pedro, CA, the daughter of George E. and Flora Mae (Jones) Laird.

She married Jimmie Dean Atkins on February 21, 1976 at Du Quoin, IL and he survives.

She is survived by her husband of Du Quoin, one daughter - Sacha RaNae Cobin and husband Jeremy of Christopher, one grandblessing (granddaughter) - Savanah Dawn Cobin of Christopher, one brother - Mike Laird and wife Melody of Herrin, one sister - LaDonna Cummings and husband Kerrie of Indianapolis, IN, several nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents.

Per Sheryl's request, cremation rites were accorded.

A celebration of life service will be from 5 to 7 P.M., Saturday, December 19, 2020 at the Christopher Civic Center in Christopher, IL with the family conducting the service.

Friends may make memorials to Pinckneyville Hospital Oncology Department and will be accepted at the funeral home.
