Virgil Leslie Kuhnert, 78, of Carbondale, Illinois, passed away at 8:25 P.M., Tuesday, December 7, 2021 at the Du Quoin Nursing and Rehabilitation Center in Du Quoin.
Prior to retiring, Virgil had worked as a Realtor at ReMax Reality. Before that he served communities in Northwest Illinois as a teacher and education administrator for over 20 years. He graduated from Illinois State University in 1965 with his B.S. in Education and from Northern Illinois University with a M.S. in Education in 1973 and Certificate of Advanced Study in 1977. He was passionate about blood donation at the Mississippi Valley Regional Blood Center, where he donated over 40 gallons. In his spare time, Virgil loved to dance and socialize.
He was born August 9, 1943 at Pinckneyville, IL, the son of Lee and Goldie (Magerkurth) Kuhnert.
He is survived by two sons - Aaron Kuhnert and wife Courtney of Athens, OH, and Brett Kuhnert of Ashland City, TN, one daughter - Johanna Weaver and husband Shane of Blue Ridge, VA, six grandchildren - Sabrina, Matthew, Nathaniel, Elaina, Annelise, and Judah, eight step grandchildren, five step great grandchildren, two brothers - Roger Kuhnert and wife Mary of Pinckneyville, and Allen Kuhnert and wife Dorothy of Pinckneyville, and one sister - Gloria Conroy of Pinckneyville.
He was preceded in death by his parents.
Graveside services will be at Noon, Saturday, December 18, 2021 at the Mueller Hill Cemetery at Pinckneyville with Bro. Rob Mathis officiating.
Burial will be in the Mueller Hill Cemetery at Pinckneyville.
