William G. Poiter, Jr., 80, of Du Quoin, passed away at 2:45 P.M., Monday, October 17, 2022 at his residence.
Bill had worked in coal mine construction. He was a member of the Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Du Quoin. Bill loved to spend time at his cabin in Cudgetown. He also enjoyed going dancing.
He was born June 23, 1942 in Du Quoin, IL, the son of William G. and Matilda (Harsy) Poiter, Sr.
He married Sharon Dean on May 4, 1973 at the Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Du Quoin and she survives.
He is survived by his wife of Du Quoin, two sons - Brandon Poiter and wife Stephanie and Michael Poiter and wife Jennifer, all of Du Quoin, six grandchildren - Sydney Jaloudi and husband Kutaibah, Audrey Poiter, Olivia Poiter, Jameson Poiter, Maggie Poiter, and Marion Poiter.
He was preceded in death by his parents and three sisters - Evelyn Rowland, Pauline McCollum, and Wilma Jean Poiter in infancy.
Funeral Mass will be at 10:00 A.M., Friday, October 21, 2022 at the Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Du Quoin with Fr. Carl Schrage officiating.
Burial will be in the Sacred Heart Cemetery in Du Quoin.
Friends may make memorials to Sacred Heart Catholic Church or Sacred Heart Cemetery and will be accepted at the funeral home.
